Description of Project:

 

The project aims at the creation of Women Farmers Social Enterprises in the regions of Horezm, Syrdarya and Samarqand of Uzbekistan in order to support and enhance the economic independence and living conditions of women Dekhans and farmers.
Through the establishment of the Social Enterprises, the project aims at supporting and strengthening local women working in agriculture providing them with opportunities for income and employment generation, capacity building in the management of rural SMEs, financing and credit, etc, and introducing the use of sustainable techniques and technologies in agriculture (renewable energy systems) for the increase of productivity, product market value and income/profit, that will consequently improve their living standards.
Furthermore, the project aims at promoting gender equality through furthering the economic independence of rural women by supporting equal opportunities to employment and entrepreneurship. The project also aims at promoting the protection and conservation of the environment by providing access to renewable energy systems (RES) to support income generation activities and by promoting the use of RE in agriculture.
Project activities include the following:

  • Creation of Women Farmers’ Social Enterprises in 3 regions

Three women farmer’s social enterprises will be created in 3 regions of Uzbekistan by women dekhkans and farmers. The main commercial activity of the enterprises will be fruit drying through the use of RES.


The project activities include:

  • Women Farmers’ Social Enterprises operation

Elaboration of Business Plans and Business Process Mapping
Procurement of equipment for start up and operation of the social enterprises, including PVS for electricity supply to the offices and solar fruit driers.

  • Study visit in Greece

Organization of a study visit for members of the Social Enterprises and staff of the local partner, to enhance their knowledge on concepts that open up new frontiers for business development and lessons learned on approaches to develop business concurrently with social commitment.

  • Capacity Building

Organization of Training of trainers for Social Enterprises’ and local partner’s staff. Provision of training also to women farmers and dekhans in the 3 regions to enhance their business skills in order to enable them to further develop the social enterprises and to become more effective and efficient farmers and/or businesswomen.

  • Public Awareness Campaign.
