Description of Project:

The project was implemented at the remote village of Kamar, Shakhrizabs region, Kashkadarya province, which supported job creation/income generating activities at local level (creation of small enterprises managed by the community) through access to renewable energy services.
The provision of electricity on a least-cost basis to the village of Kamar promoted the development of economic activity and increase in employment that will lead to the improvement of living standards, and will ensure sustainable economic growth and the reduction of poverty. The use of renewable energy also has beneficial effects on the levels of health, and potentially education and literacy of the local population and contributes to the protection and conservation of the environment.
The creation of new jobs and/or additional income for the inhabitants of Kamar was achieved by the installation of a Renewable Energy System (RES) (Micro hydropower station, Wind power station, PVS and solar collectors) that provides sustainable energy not only to the village households, but more importantly to new small enterprises that were established and managed by members of the community (through the establishment of a co-operative). Main project activities included:
1 - Inception
1.1 Preparatory visit and Inception Report
2 - Establishment of cooperative and its operational mechanisms
2.1 Preparation of Business Plan of selected small enterprises, including the design of main Business Processes according to best practices.
2.2 Legal support and establishment and start-up of the co-operative
3 - Equipment Procurement (and installation) (Micro hydropower station, Wind power station, Solar collectors, Biogas plant)
4 - Establishment and operation of small enterprises using RE technologies (dried fruits production, vegetable oil production, flour mill, bakery, bathhouse, hairdressers, handicrafts shop, tourist facilities)
