Description of Project:

 

The general objective of the project is to promote a new and well-structured model for sustainable tourism in Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan based on sustainable production and consumption (SCP) patterns. More specifically the project aims at:

(a) supporting tourism companies mainly in Uzbekistan but also in Tajikistan and Kazakhstan to adopt SCP practices by providing the appropriate knowledge and ICT tools;
(b) supporting regional and local authorities to plan and implement policies that assist the development of sustainable tourism;
(c) raising  awareness regarding sustainable tourism and consumer awareness about sustainable consumption; and
(d) strengthening the dialogue between authorities, SMEs and end users as concerns SCP.

The action is addressed to 440 enterprises in tourism sector in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, 30 local and regional authorities, 15 consumer associations, and 3 Tourism Associations, while the final beneficiaries are the local communities, tourism MSMEs and professionals, end users of tourism services and products, Chambers of Commerce, Business Intermediary Organizations (BIOs).

Services Provided:

- WP1: Capacity building of tourism MSMEs and association on adapting EU Environmental standards and on supporting technological solutions
EP will develop training materials for green procurement and provide training in the framework of activities 1.1. GSTC criteria for sustainable tourism, relevant standards as well as on green procurement and 1.2 Training on ICT Tools provided and permanently installed at target groups/stakeholders.

WP2: Support the implementation of SCP
EP will be responsible for implementation of activities 2.5. Identification of financial resources from the EU and other international donors and 2.6. Marketing support of the MSMEs, and will contribute to activities 2.4. Organisation of networking events between MSMEs and business angels and investors for facilitating the adoption of the SCP practices and 2.7. Transfer of EU best/good practices.

WP3: Strengthening the role of regional and local authorities in sustainable development and enhancement of the public dialogue

EP will contribute to the implementation of activities 3.1. Workshops for sustainable planning (EU SEAP/SECAP plans), 3.2. Round tables among targeted SMES and local and regional authorities and 3.3. Policy recommendations, improvement of legislative framework.

WP4: Awareness raising of users of tourist services on sustainable consumption in the area of water, waste, recycling and energy behaviour.

EP will be responsible for implementation of activity 4.4. Development and printing of guidelines on sustainable consumption, and will contribute to activities 4.1. Workshops for end users regarding the sustainable consumption, 4.2. Organisation of promotional campaign related to sustainable tourism, and 4.3. Design and production of promotional materials.

WP 5: Dissemination
EP will contribute to project dissemination activities.
