Description of Project:

A large number of women in the 40+ age bracket cannot fully participate in society and have a social outlet. These are women whose educational background is fickle, come from low socio-economic strata and have little or no social skills. Moreover they do not have strong family support, face adaptability problems and are not capable of dealing with others. In addition they have suffered physical and/or emotional abuses, which have led to having extremely low self-esteem. Their memories of traumatic educational past experiences, the fear of rejection by their co-learners and teachers, result to their reluctance to enter mainstream classroom learning. The utmost goal of the project is to attract them into the learning process through the creation of social learning "circles" where learning can be achieved through a socializing process. The duration of the program, as well as the period applying for a grant from the SOCRATES program will be 24 months. The outputs of the project are expected to be the following: a)the facilitator's guide, b) the web page and c) CDs including information on the project

The project aims to (a) enable women who are socially excluded participate in the life-long learning process through socialization (b) enable them to build a healthier self esteem and develop social skills which will equip them with the ability to live productive and fulfilling lives and (c) provide the facilitator with the necessary skills to fulfil her/his mission successfully.
