Description of Project:

The project aims to increase the technical capacity and the capability of the National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC) inspection bodies in order to strengthen the consumer's protection and the market surveillance and to improve the cooperation with civil society, including the activity of information and counselling to ensure a high level of consumer protection.

Specific objectives :

  • To assist the further cooperation between ANPC and its 42 regional offices by creating an integrated intranet system;
  • To improve the ANPC capacity of analysing the risk factors and effective compliance enforcement against economic operators who neglect the safety requirements and to manage the consumer complaints more efficiently through improved data management;
  • To create a mechanism for passing the information about dangerous consumer products to the other authorities dealing with consumer products by extending the TRAPEX system to all these authorities;
  • To provide assistance on how to improve the procedure for registration and dealing with complaints;
  • To train ANPC staff in the area of consumer protection, market surveillance, risk analysis/management and financial services;
  • Τo establish a plan in order to multiply the training activities to the whole country;
  • Τo organise an study tour in Member States for some ANPC representatives;
  • To elaborate a strategy to strengthen market surveillance activity and to introduce a method of risk analysis/management to target non-compliant products;
  • To promote the dissemination of knowledge on consumers' protection topics in a more effective way.
