Description of Project:

The overall objective of the project is to deepen knowledge and understanding of Regional Integration and in particular, the Caribbean Single Market and Economy.

The purpose of this project is to promote stakeholder buy-in and stimulate and encourage active participation by stakeholders in the Single Market and Economy (CSME) by executing research and developing a public education strategy for disseminating messages for Rural Communities.

There are four results to be achieved by the project:

Result 1: Research

An initial investigation on the prevailing conditions in rural communities, such as produce for sale, infrastructure, constraints and level of CSME awareness is conducted, and a report is prepared and delivered to the CARICOM Secretariat CSME Unit

Result 2: Regional consultation seminar on the output of Result 1 to obtain consensus on the proposed strategy.
The Regional Consultation should facilitate at least thirty (30) participants from Member States, to discuss and gain consensus on the findings of result 1 and input to inform result 3.

Result 3: Development of Messages and Dissemination Strategy
Messages which will resonate with the rural communities, based on the initial investigation and discussions with the stakeholder group and a strategy for dissemination are developed.

Services Provided:

• Carry out an investigation into the prevailing conditions in rural communities as it relates to produce for sale, infrastructure and constraints in: Belize, Dominica, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Suriname;
• Prepare and deliver a report on the study to the Secretariat;
• Present findings on the study, with at least thirty participants from Member States involving key stakeholders from the farming community, the media, Ministries of Agriculture, and Rural Development and NGOs;
• Develop CSME messages from the initial study and the discussions with the stakeholders. These messages should resonate with the rural communities.
• Develop a public education strategy for disseminating the messages;
• Prepare and deliver inception, progress and final reports on all stages of the project.
